Hello everyone! I'd like to thank you for taking the time to visit my site and welcome you to my Photo Gallery and testimonial page.

Guiding & selling flies to my customers is rewarding in many aspects. From the time I put the hook in the vice dreams are drowning my thoughts, visions of smiles & hearing cheers as trophy fish are put into the net... memories etched to be replayed over in the anglers mind, stories rekindled at a campfire from grandparents to grandkids, father to son.

I am honored to share these photos and stories from fellow anglers especially our youth on their first catch not only as a commentary on the quality of my flies and dedication to my customers, but also as a tribute to past and future outings that may bring many more great memories - because building memories and passing them on is what it's all about.

Another fine catch by Dave

Father/Daughter team effort

Ken holds his daughter Hanna's 15+ lb trophy Steelhead They were my last trip for the Spring 2009 season, what a way to end a season

She released the fish to fight again

Congrats Hanna!

Mark with a NY buck

Canadaway Creek, NY

Conditions were tough, with low clear water and shy Chromers. There were no crowds and room to work with, so I was able to go to light tippet, small nymphs and let em run!

Perserverance paid off with quite a few fish released to fight again!

FISH ON!

Cattaraugus Creek, NY

Unlike the smaller tribs along Steelhead Alley, the Catt with it's large size, strong currents and a fresh Chromer on the end of the line - you can bet money on a arm ripping, drag screaming fight.

Scott with a nice Erie Trib Buck

A rare occasion on the Alley - a few of our team guides were able to enjoy a day together and do some fishing.

Don "dfishinfool" Mathews was all smiles with this Erie Trib fresh Hen.

Way to go buddy!

Ohio Trib Big Buck

Dominick with one of a few nice fish he landed

This one had the kype goin on with beautiful crimson sides.

Nice job Dom!

Nice fresh football sized Ohio Buck.

It was a stellar day for Laurent, landing a few in the 8 - 9 lb range

I'm still working on how to pronounce your name Laurent!........LOL

Nick was surely full of smiles when he latched into this guy!

It was a double digit day enjoyed by all in the great outdoors on the Alley.

I'm sure you hated to fly back home.

Another Ohio Buck

The fish were on the move and Todd took advantage of it landing double digits of fresh Chromers and a few older Bucks that had been in the stream for a while.

Nice Job Todd!

Doug......I lost count of the hook ups you had, but once you composed yourself, it was on!

The ice breaker! Small pic, but Doug was too focused on rippin more lips, and that he did, resulting in a phenominal day on the water.

Beautiful day and great times!

See ya this Spring

P.S. We must get a pic of a 10+ Lb-er this time.

John was showing some fatigue by noon, but pressed on throughout the day and lasting til dusk, walking away with a very memorable day on the Alley.

This guy was a fish catching machine!

Later that week I get a phone call from John...turns out we were both on the water and he was giving me a river report. Making new friends and enjoying the outdoors is what it's all about!

See ya this Spring John!

Mark,
Here is an example of what your quality flies do when the right person gets their hands on your patterns! It weighed 13 and 1/2 lbs, striaght from the oak orchard creek in albion new york. Keep up the good work.

Elis Cruz

The Ohio Rain God unleashed it's fury on us this morning, and pursisted to push us out. Contacts were made with the sweet reply of "what rain" and thats exactly what we did.....shot up the alley to avoid the cats and dogs and save the day from disaster. Echos of "fish on!" could be heard throughout the creek bottom, as everyone in the group took turns of scrapping it out with fresh Chromers.

The fresh 5 lb Chromer really isn't that small!

Tim......I think we need to shrink your body so the fish are not dwarfed against you in the pics or go for king Tarpon.

Tight Lines!

Mark

P.S. I'm installing a beacon on my rod.

Mark,

Here's my first steelhead on an electric glo spawn!

Gordon

Nice to see the smile on your face Gordon! I'm glad to be a part of that.

Mark

Mr. Defrank,

I spoke with you earlier in the year regarding which flies to use in the area i flyfished...I have to say that the assortment that you recomended me was MORE than successfull and I have to thank you very much for the help. I am looking into expanding my horizons and I'm going to take a few trips to Erie for steelhead. ... any help you could give regarding equipment, flies, fishing spots would be extremely helpful. Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Joseph

Hey Mark -
I think I told you that I was going to the Elk with my cousins for the first time this week.  We fished downstream from Follys on Monday morning, and upstream from Streuchen Flats Monday afternoon.  Tuesday morning we fished upstream from Follys.  What an amazing trip - I guess we hit it at just the right time.  This really screwed up my idea of what a day of steelhead fishing is supposed to be like!  I caught fish on several of your flies - the chartreuse egg that's tied around a pink middle got a couple, and one of the freebies you gave me scored - I looked on eBay, and I see that it was one of your Mad Albino Stones.  I watched a nice little hen move over about a foot to eat it - I got a couple of nice jumps out of her (she's the one I'm holding up in the picture).

And coolest of all, the last one I hooked & landed took one of your streamers - a gold body with some olive rabbit fur, I think.  (She's the one in the water that I'm about to unhook). That was my first steelie on a streamer.

You'll probably recognize the pool in the picture where my cousin & I are both hooked up - it's maybe a mile or a mile and a half upstream from Follys.  We hiked quite a ways to get away from other folks, and it really paid off.  I'm guessing there were 25 steelhead in the pool, and you can see how clear it was.  It was awesome just watching them.
Hope you like the pics -
Keith

I banged these three coastal steelhead on defrank flies. Not only did they take the fly they took the top one. I will soon start fishing them on the bottom which should be even better
