DeFrank’s Flies Master Tier and Owner Mark DeFrank recently took third place out of 360+ entries in the Fly Tyer Magazine 30th-Anniversary International Fly-Tying Championships. The Championships were conducted with the cooperation of the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum. For this contest, each tier was required to submit two flies: one mandatory pattern and one “tiebreaker” fly of the tiers choice. The selection of mandatory flies included the Royal Wulff, Hair-Wing Blue Doctor, and Flashtail Whistler. The tiebreaker could be an established pattern or an original fly. The only real rule is that the tiebreaker fly must be a pattern that would be used for actual fishing. For his mandatory fly Mark tied the Royal Wulff and his Wiggle Hex was submitted as the tiebreaker. |

He will be tying flies geared towards hot patterns for fall Trout and Steelhead flies. Fall Steelhead School 2009 - November 6, 7 and 8, 2009 - If you have been thinking about giving fly-fishing or Steel heading a try but have felt intimidated by everything involved. Fear no more. Spend a weekend at one of our schools and you will leave with the confidence and knowledge to catch the ultimate fresh water game fish. Steelhead!! Dunbar Sportsmens Club Tying Classes will begin in January of 2010. |

After the Spring Steelhead Season, I will be taking orders for Steelhead Rods I use guiding on the Alley in time for the 2009 Fall Season.
I will have a page dedicated just for the rods.
All will be custom built by me personally with the same meticulus detailed craftsmanship I follow when tying my flies.
Rod details: 10' 7 wt 2 pc. moderate flex rod. Matt charcoal gray IM7 blank with red & black thread raps accented with silver, stainless steel guides, folding hook keep, full welled grip and a 2" fighting butt.
A 50% Deposit will be needed for Customizing the rod with your name which is included in the price.
These have just the right flex for the explosive runs and enough back bone to have plenty of control over the fish.
